Santa Cruz Papalutla

Description
Papalutla means "Place of Many Butterflies". Approximately 1,700 people live there, and the able hands of farmers and artisans earn a living in ancestral activities, which include farming, basket-making, reed handicrafts, and raising small animals and domesticated fowl.

The climate is mild, with few annual variations, making it an ideal spot to be in touch with Nature, and observe or participate in the activities of its inhabitants, whether in basket making or farming. The fields and paths are an invitation to make your visit something different.

Administrators of the Y' Tourist Service organise tours to the centre of town and through fields and roads of the community. A seventeenth-century church stands out for its elegant stonework, visible on both its main and side portals.

This community has basic services such as a market, telephone, medical service, small stores, tortilla shops, bread stores, and butchers.

Location
Santa Cruz Papalutla: Is located 19 miles (31 kilometres) Southeast of the City of Oaxaca via highway 190 to the Isthmus. Turn right after 11 miles (18 kilometres). Approximate travel time: [0:40]
